Burton Barr Central Library has nearly 2,000 square feet of dining, storage and office space on the first floor. Now, it hopes to find a partner to make use of all that space.

According to the Burton Barr Central Library, approximately 3,000 people browse through books, attend children’s programs and take classes every day. And, some have requested cafe services. 

That's why the Phoenix Public Library will soon ask the city council to let the department partner with a non-profit to run a cafe. According to a city report, the cafe would offer coffee, other drinks, quick eats and catered meals.

If approved, the deal would last at least five years and focus on providing job skills and opportunities for young people.
