If you’re planning to head up north for cooler weather, you may smell smoke near Payson. That comes as a result of prescribed fire treatments in the area.

The Tonto National Forest will be conducting the prescribed fire treatments starting on Monday through Feb. 14.

This is to eliminate 273 acres of vegetative debris piles. The Forest Service says those in the area can expect to see and smell smoke, and that the burning should stop around 3 p.m. each day.

The treatments are affected by many environmental conditions like wind, temperature and humidity.
