Phoenix Sky Harbor Moves Forward With Valet Service Plans
During an aviation subcommittee meeting, Assistant Aviation Director Christine Smith told members that the airport could start offering valet service as early as this summer, pending the approval of the city council.
Smith said airports similar in size to Sky Harbor take different approaches. Some focus on providing customer service while others focus more on making money.
“Dallas has a very extensive valet program and is very revenue driven, and they earn revenues upwards of I think $4-6 million a year on valet services," she said. "Others barely break even.”
Smith said that Sky Harbor is looking to establish a minimum annual guarantee from the valet company. They’re still working on the details for a pilot program including what services will be offered at which terminals. The subcommittee voted to allow the airport to seek solicitations from valet companies this spring.
The pilot program could include premium services like car washes and oil changes.
Recently, the Phoenix City Council gave the green light for ride share companies like Uber and Lyft to operate at Sky Harbor Airport.
