The Arizona legislature recently passed a bill that would require an abortion-inducing drug to be administered according to outdated Food and Drug Administration guidelines.

The bill uses FDA protocol that was in effect at the end of last year and is more limiting than current FDA guidelines. The FDA approved a new label Tuesday, which allows the drug to be administered to women who are up to ten weeks pregnant instead of seven. It also allows the second dose to be taken at home instead of at a doctor’s office. The bill is currently waiting Governor Ducey’s signature or veto.

Republican State Senator Kimberly Yee sponsored the bill and said "It certainly will be up to the governor on what to do with the current bill on his desk, but he is a pro-life governor."

She also said "Everybody is working together now to determine what the options are, and the intent has always been to protect the health and safety of women."

The American Congress of Obstreticians and Gynecologists support the new FDA protocol, saying that it “reflects the current available scientific evidence and best practices.”
