This Saturday is the first weekend day Maricopa County residents can vote early in person. Should early voters work up an appetite by exercising their democratic rights, they will be in luck.

The Arizona Democratic Party is sending food trucks to each of the seven early voting sites that will be open on Saturday.

“There are different types of food trucks at each one, and the first 100 people are going to get a free made meal,” said Tom Reade, the party’s Get Out the Vote director.

Reade said the offer is open to all voters, regardless of party affiliation or how they vote.

Voters who wish to vote early in person can do so at any location they choose. On most days there are 25 sites open, but seven are open this Saturday and Oct. 29.

As of Friday morning, more than 230,000 people had already returned their early mailed ballots and nearly 5,000 voted early in person.

Elizabeth Bartholomew of the Maricopa County Recorder's Office said in-person early voting is more popular so far this election than it has been in past elections.

“I think it is just convenient, you have 27 days before Election Day that you can go to any one of these 25 early voting sites and vote in person,” Bartholomew said.
