More than 120,000 Arizonans used the Marketplace to get insurance last year.

March 31 was the last day to sign up for health insurance through the marketplace, unless you went through a major life event. Marriage, divorce, child birth and moving are some of those exceptions. 

In Arizona more than 120,000 signed up for health coverage through the Affordable Care Act federal marketplace during the open enrollment period according to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

Tom Simplot is the CEO of the Arizona Multi-housing Association. He is working with apartment complexes all over the state to notify people about the life changing event exceptions. Simplot said he targeted apartment complexes because many people who are moving in may qualify for this exception.

“We provide the information to get them started we don’t provide the answer the questions we instead provide them the opportunity to get those answers,” said Simplot. 

But he said so far less than 50 people have signed up for insurance because of this awareness campaign. The next open enrollment period will start in October.
