Residents living in southwest Phoenix are getting some good news Thursday from the city and Maricopa County.

City and County leaders are marking the completion of a regional storm water retention basin built in the South Mountain area near 27th Avenue south of Baseline. 

Neighborhoods in that area were hit hard by severe flooding during torrential rain storms that swept through the Valley in 2014.
