Tempe streetcar feedback deadline

July 01, 2013

If you want a say in where the Tempe Streetcar project will run, Sunday is the deadline for the public to submit input. The proposed rail system will service the city’s downtown area. The public has two routes to choose from that run through central Tempe.

The 2.5 mile project will cost an estimated $130 million. The plan will be paid in large part by a countywide half-cent sales tax that voters approved in 2004 and other transit funds. Tempe wants the Federal Transportation Agency to pick up the balance.

After the public’s input, planners will gather the information and make a final recommendation to the Tempe City council in the fall. The proposal will go to the FTA for funding approval.
