While Gov. Doug Ducey said he is bullish on giving public school teachers a 4-percent pay raise this year, he did favor raising the limit corporations can donate to private and parochial schools for scholarships.

Rather than placing those donations in the state’s general fund, Ducey said he prefers giving parents a choice.

“Where they can send their child to the school of their choice, is important. It’s something we have in Arizona and something many other states don’t have, and want and I want to see that continue," he said.

According to the current Arizona tax codes, donations to public schools are capped at $400 for a married couple.

Under Ducey’s plan, that donation cap would remain the same. But the $62 million cap for corporations wanting to donate to private or parochial schools would increase 20 percent each year.
