Valley School District To Expect 500 New Students

August 02, 2013

School starts this week for several Valley districts.

The Phoenix Union High School District is looking at a spike in enrollment this year with as many as 500 new students. While some students may end up as no-shows once school starts, the influx may signal overcrowding.

"When you have more kids show up, you've got classrooms that are at capacity, we may have to bring in some more teachers," district spokesman Craig Pletenik said.

The district has already hired 150 new teachers for the upcoming school year.
