The latest synthetic opioid being pushed by drug dealers is not only lethal, but hiding in plain sight. This is what law enforcement is calling “Grey Death.”

It’s called “Grey Death” because, "It has a powdery form almost like a concrete before it gets mixed with water,” said Shannon Scheel with Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office.

Scheel says it’s made up of several lower-grade ingredients purchased online, making it extremely unpredictable and hard to test for safety, because, "it’s done by drug dealers in their garages, where they have no expertise in it, different than anything else. If you get the wrong mixture, death is the result."

He says Black Tar heroin is easier to buy and sell in Arizona, keeping the “Grey Death” dealers from competing. But, he warns, that won’t stop the deadly drug from finding its way home as summer travel increases between here and the Midwest.
