A former candidate for Pinal County sheriff has just learned his stellar resume is tarnished by his association with Arizona’s SB 1070 law.

When Pinal County voters failed to elect Steve Henry for their next sheriff, political pundits said he was not as conservative as his opponent.

Henry has moved on, recently applying for a position as police chief for Fort Collins, Colorado.

Conservative watchdog group Judicial Watch reports the 55-year-old law veteran was among the top six finalists with a strong resume.

But, after visiting the city, a source involved in the selection process told Judicial Watch his application was abruptly pulled because of his public support of Arizona’s conservative backed SB 1070 law allowing officers to ask individuals about their immigration status.

Judicial Watch says he was upholding “the rule of law” and it is investigating.
