Firefighters battled a fire at the Bisbe City Hall.

Federal authorities have launched an investigation into a fire that caused substantial damage to Bisbee’s City Hall earlier this week.

Nobody was hurt when a fire broke out in the early morning hours Wednesday, but the blaze was so large that personnel from eight fire departments responded.

By Thursday, officials with the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives were at the scene of the devastated historic building. It was one day after the Cochise County Sheriff's Office requested federal assistance.

The Sierra Vista Herald reports that Sheriff Mark Dannels said two ATF agents are working with the county fire investigator and structural engineer to determine the cause of the blaze.

City officials are working to temporarily relocate administrative offices.
