It’s been a rollercoaster ride for healthcare policy in the United States in 2017.

When President Donald Trump was elected to go along with a House and Senate controlled by Republicans, expectations by many were that the Affordable Care Act would be a thing of the past.

But the ACA, or Obamacare, is still breathing.

When members of congress went home for the holidays, they still hadn’t approved an extension — or a new plan — to provide health care for millions of low-income children. And, though President Trump declared the opioid crisis a public health emergency, funding didn’t accompany that declaration.

With me to talk about U.S. healthcare policy in 2017 and what could happen in 2018 are Julie Rovner, chief Washington correspondent for Kaiser Health News, and KJZZ’s Will Stone.
