Saturday morning, from 8 a.m. until noon, Buckeye is holding its fifth annual Veterans Lift Up event.

Annie DeChance with Buckeye said the city, one of the fastest-growing in the nation, is now approaching 70,000 in population.

With that growth, she said West Valley veterans are ideal candidates for positions in Buckeye’s municipal offices, including water and police divisions.

“Because they’ve got the military background to do the job as a police officer and even in the Water Resources Department, that training really transfers over," DeChance said. "That’s pretty much what any of the companies are there for. They know that, whatever the job is, veterans do it very well.”

DeChance said employers like Hickman’s Family Farms, McLane Sunwest, Luke Air Force Base and Team Security are recruiting at the event, which is being held at Buckeye’s Odyssey Preparatory High School.

The city is also providing transition services to help veterans establish roots in and around the region.
