The Valley’s light rail system now covers 20 miles stretching from Mesa to north central Phoenix.

The Northwest Phase One extension from Montebello north to Dunlap is set to open by early 2016. Valley Metro, the agency overseeing the system, is planning for the next leg.

It will hold a public meeting tonight to brief the public on the Phase Two extension. A study under way will identify a feasible connection with a bridge across I-17 to the Metro Center area.

That leg is scheduled to be completed by 2026.
