Arizona’s GOP congressional contingent is giving President Trump’s tariff proposal mixed reviews.

Outgoing Sen. Jeff Flake is among more than a 100 Republican members of Congress who unsuccessfully urged President Trump to reconsider the broad levies on steel and aluminum imports.

Flake is currently drafting legislation that would nullify the tariffs, worrying they will disrupt the economy.

“We have a conducive tax and regulatory--the economy looks good. Going ahead, that could all be reversed with a trade war," Flake said.

Even if Flake does convince the Senate to take action, it would take two-thirds vote to override a potential veto from the president.

Congressman Paul Gosar is fully supportive. Even though tariffs on Mexico and Canada were excluded from President’s Trump’s announcement, he says he has no problem with them.

Gosar believes they can be an effective bargaining chip in renegotiating the North American Free Trade Agreement.

“This is a good way to have a hard new look at what your doing, making your on the right steps. Making sure the contract is beneficial to both parties on both sides Canada and Mexico, and last but not least, the United States," Gosar said.

Gosar says Trump has proven that he knows what he is doing when it comes to handling the economy.
