The final stretch of a Phoenix highway's access road is open to traffic.

The Arizona Department of Transportation said Monday that drivers can now use all the new Interstate 10 access roads, about 8 months after construction began.

The access road in West Phoenix between 51st and 67th avenues was limited by the expansion of the Loop 202 South Mountain Freeway.

The South Mountain freeway will eventually link metro Phoenix's west and east suburbs without cutting through downtown Phoenix. The creation of this 22-mile freeway is projected to cost about $2 billion and has been controversial since it’s proposal.
