An Arizona lawmaker wants to ease the financial burden on the state’s medical marijuana patients.

Republican Sen. Sonny Borrelli is proposing to extend initial certifications on medical cards from one year to two.

Borrelli said he sees this measure as an attempt to streamline government.

“It would be easier on the department of health because they have such a very short timeline of getting these cards in and out," said Borrelli. "So for processing, why not have the card go for two years?"

The proposal would also decrease the annual renewal fee for cardholders from $150 to $50 per year.
