Hate Your Commute? Tell Phoenix Metro Officials About It
The Maricopa Association of Governments (MAG) wants to hear your opinion about transportation priorities. Information from MAG’s online survey will be used to plan projects — and a sales tax pitch.
In 2004, voters in Maricopa County approved a half-cent sales tax hike to improve the Valley’s transportation system. Before it expires in 2025, MAG hopes to convince voters to extend it another 20 years.
“Our next proposition might be a little different,” said Audra Koester Thomas, transportation planning program manager with MAG.
She said the next proposition, which they hope to take to voters in 2022, will likely identify priorities, not necessarily specific projects.
“Things are changing so fast, transportation innovation is occurring overnight and we’re imagining that this next prop might be more flexible,” Thomas said.
MAG’s online survey asks people to share what transportation option they value most and what most part of the region’s system they find most frustrating.
Elected officials will review the results before MAG develops its next regional transportation plan.
“It’s really looking at that next generation of investments,” Thomas said. “We want to get feedback early so we can develop a plan that’s going to serve as a blueprint for where those investments will go for the next generation.”
MAG is raffling prizes for people who complete the survey through April 5, including a $1,000 grand prize.
