The city of Prescott's lawsuit against companies responsible for manufacturing and distributing prescription opiates is headed back to an Arizona court.

One pharmaceutical company, a defendant in the case, argued the Prescott suit should be tried along with the massive multidistrict case now pending in an Ohio federal court, according to a press release from the city.

But the Prescott legal team does not want the case to be rolled into a package of thousands of similar lawsuits and languishing in a faraway federal court.

Prescott, one of several cities and counties to file suit this year against pharmaceutical companies and manufacturers, claimed the city has been "uniquely and disproportionately impacted by the opioid crisis."

The complaint said "this case is about corporate greed. Each of the defendants put its desire for profit above the health and well-being of Prescott's residents. Prescott and its citizens have paid dearly as a result."

The case will be heard in Yavapai County Superior Court.
