Next week, the Arizona School Boards Association will be hosting a three-day conference in Phoenix called The Equity Event: Leadership Strategies and Promising Practices for Closing the Opportunity and Achievement Gaps.

Sessions will include topics like “collaborating to create pre-school to post-secondary opportunities for student success” and “why all districts should examine data through an equity lens.”

We talked about striving toward educational equity in Arizona with Tracey Benson, assistant executive director of the Arizona School Boards Association. We also talked with Dr. Kent Paredes Scribner, superintendent of the Phoenix Union High School District and Jeanne Powers, associate professor of educational policy and evaluation at ASU’s Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College.
