Thunderstorms and heavy rain overnight provided more than a light show in parts of the East Valley.  Although there were no serious problems, Gilbert took the opportunity to use social media to ask  people not to irrigate their lawns.

Gilbert Water Resources Coordinator Eric Braun said the half inch of rain they received is enough for residents to hold off on an irrigation cycle.

“Since it’s such a big user of water, we wanted to make sure folks are being as efficient with that water use as possible. So, taking advantage of the rainfall is a great way to save that watering for a time when you don’t have the rainfall,” Braun said.

Gilbert used social media for the first time to make their announcement. Braun said they previously went face to face to inform residents. He hopes the use of social media will help spread the water conservation issues to the greater population.
