Federal authorities say they’ve arrested a Phoenix man on suspicion that he was part of a plot to resell 1 million KN95 masks in New York City at a drastic markup.

William Young Sr. is accused of violating the Defense Production Act.

Court records say Young proposed selling KN95 masks to an undercover FBI agent for a price at least 300% more than what they were before the coronavirus pandemic.

The documents describe phone calls in which Young and a co-defendant allegedly told the agent about funneling money through a trust, and creating documentation to falsely show the price of the masks had not been significantly raised.

If convicted, Young faces up to one year in prison.
