Certain foreign professional athletes and their families are now allowed into the United States.

Homeland Security has exempted them from entry-barring orders by President Donald Trump to protect against COVID-19. The Department said the acting secretary signed the exemption in support of the Trump administration’s effort to reopen the economy.

Homeland Security pledged to work with eight major professional sports groups, including the NBA, WNBA and MLB, to get athletes, coaches and trainers into the country.

Each league or group has put its season on hold due to COVID-19, but there are hopes that play can resume safely.

Homeland Security said it can add or remove athletes from the exempt list based on plans of the league they play for.
