Nine law enforcement agencies in Arizona are getting a share of nearly $400 million in grant funding from the Department of Justice’s Office of Community Oriented Policing Services.

Apache Junction, Camp Verde, the city of Maricopa, Nogales, Peoria, Pima County, Coconino County, Sahuarita and Winslow will all be getting federal dollars to hire more police officers.

Kathleen Levinson is the administrative manager for the Coconino County Sheriff’s Office. She says agencies were asked to describe their need for assistance in the application process and how they would use the funds to strengthen community policing.

“Basically I just described our county and how large it is and the geographical territory that we have to provide law enforcement will minimal officers," Levinson said.

Coconino is the second-largest county in the United States.

The Sheriff’s Office is receiving $500,000 to hire four new officers.
