A survey by market researcher WestGroup finds that many Arizonans aren’t ready to re-enter their old lives after the COVID-19 stay-at-home order. The online survey also found a partisan divide between people who want to reopen and those who think the state is moving too fast. 

Senior analyst Dave Maddox said the survey found a reluctance to resume normal activity. 

“Some comments we did hear were that people were kind of waiting for the promise, get over the hump, and be on the downside of the slope kind of thing, and they’re not quite seeing that yet,” Maddox said.

About three quarters of Democrats feel the state reopened too soon. Only 19% of Republicans feel that way.

“In general, those on the Republican side are just more likely to try everything. They’re ready to get back to normal, if you will. Democrats are a little more hesitant to do so,” Maddox said.

The survey found that many Arizonans are not still not ready to gather in large groups. They are taking a cautious approach and are not likely to eat inside a restaurant in the next month.
