Statewide Curfew For Arizona Ends

A statewide curfew in Arizona amid protests against police brutality following the death of George Floyd is over.

The last night of the curfew, which lasted from 8 p.m. until 5 a.m. for the past week, ended Monday morning.

In a series of tweets, Gov. Doug Ducey wrote he was letting the order expire without an extension.

The governor credited the order for avoiding any violence flaring up at what have been mostly peaceful protests. The order, issued on May 31, came a day after looters broke into Scottsdale Fashion Square.

However, Ducey’s curfew included broad exemptions that allowed Arizonans to be out and about during the designated hours to travel to and from work, get food or care for pets, among other activities.

Protests continued while the order was in effect. Sunday marked the 11th consecutive day of protests and another consecutive day without any arrests.
