The Phoenix Fire Department reports an increase in Valley mountain rescues over the past 10 days.

Phoenix fire is averaging one to two mountain rescues per day over the past 10 days, in comparison to the usual one to two every two days, according to Capt. Scott Douglas.

“We have a lot of factors right now that are playing into the uptick, at least in appearance, of mountain rescues, obviously the weather is getting nicer, and people want to get outside,” Douglas said.

He said other factors include increased mountain traffic, and people with new years’ resolutions to exercise more this year.

Douglas recommends having a charged cellphone, drinking water and dressing appropriately to prevent the need for mountain rescues.
