Arizona’s unemployment rate is up slightly. The seasonally adjusted rate for June was 5.9 percent, one-tenth of a percentage point more than in May.

The state's economy lost nearly 47,000 non-farm jobs last month compared to 10,500 in May, according to Arizona Department of Administration. Across Arizona's economy, five of the 11 sectors lost jobs and just three added jobs last month.

Areas with the largest losses included government and local education, while construction and professional and business services added more workers.

Arizona’s unemployment rate is six-tenths of a point higher than the national average. But analysts say the state rate is still far better than it was last year at this time, when it stood at 6.8 percent.
