Arizona once lost a Super Bowl — and the money that would have come with it — because state lawmakers didn’t create a holiday to celebrate Martin Luther King Jr.

Now Atlanta just lost a major sporting event over a newly signed voter law that President Biden called Jim Crow on steroids.

A statement came with the commissioner’s decision to move the All-Star Game. Major League Baseball opposes restrictions to the ballot box.

Voting rights are just one reason why dozens of Arizona activist groups have started a pressure campaign on companies that do business here. CVS Pharmacy, Enterprise Holdings, Farmers and Allstate insurance have been asked to publicly oppose two voting bills under consideration at the Arizona Legislature.

One bill, critics say, would make it harder for people to vote by mail by adding identification requirements. The other would erase 100,000 names from the list of those who get mail-in ballots.

Arizona is scheduled to host the Super Bowl again in 2023.
