Researcher: Latino Children Underdiagnosed For Autism Spectrum Disorder

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) say about one in 54 kids is diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), but Kristina Lopez says some children are being severely underdiagnosed.

Lopez is an assistant professor in ASU’s School of Social Work, and says Latino children with ASD often don’t get their diagnoses until much later than other kids.

The Show spoke with her to learn how significant a problem these late diagnoses are.
