A new lawsuit challenges Arizona’s civil asset forfeiture laws.

Filed by the ACLU and the law firm Perkins Coie, it centers on Rhonda Cox, a Pinal County woman whose truck was seized. She was also told if she fought that and lost, she’d have to pay prosecutors’ legal fees.

We talked to J Cabou, a partner in the litigation group at Perkins Coie.

We also reached out to the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office and Attorney’s Office.

In a written statement, the Sheriff’s Office said it’s “not in a position to comment on any civil actions that are pending or have yet to be adjudicated."

The Pinal County Attorney’s Office also said it couldn’t comment.
