Landlords Praise End Of Eviction Moratorium But Still Struggle To Receive Aid
Download mp3 (9.9 MB)Last week, the U.S. Supreme Court struck down the eviction moratorium put in place by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, calling it an overreach of the agency’s powers.
Now, here in Arizona, it is estimated that more than 250,000 renters are behind on their leases — and many are awaiting millions in federal rental assistance that has been slow to be doled out.
On the Aug. 30, The Show heard from Pamela Bridge with Community Legal Services, which works renters being evicted. She said families are worried.
But on the other side of this equation are landlords.
Landlords say they have been financially devastated by 18 months of various eviction moratoriums, and they need state and local governments to distribute assistance faster.
Courtney Gilstrap LeVinus is president and CEO of the Arizona Multihousing Association, the statewide trade association for the rental housing industry.
The Show spoke with her to learn how landlords feel about the federal moratorium ending.
