At least half the states in the U.S. have some type of COVID-19 vaccine mandate. But Arizona is not among them.

Will Humble is the director of the Arizona Public Health Association and former director of the state health department. He says a statewide vaccine mandate wouldn’t be effective without enforcement. Cities like New York have a requirement to show proof of vaccination before entering public establishments, and Humble says that type of enforcement was effective.

“That did two things: it provided a safer environment within the restaurant, but it also provided a powerful motivating tool for people to go ahead and get vaccinated who are on the fence, because they’re not allowed to go to a museum or restaurant," Humble said.

Humble says he doesn’t foresee any type of statewide vaccine mandate in Arizona.
