Arizona Sen. Mark Kelly wants to help resolve issues in the shipping industry that have plagued ports and highways, and left consumers feeling the pain of inflation in their pocketbooks.

Last week, Kelly, along with Wyoming Republican Sen. Cynthia Lummis, introduced legislation aimed at increasing the number of truck drivers available to transport goods.

Kelly said streamlining licensing regulations for truck drivers, and giving a boost to the trucking industry workforce, is one way to help ease the strain on the U.S. supply chain.

“It cuts a bunch of red tape and it’s going to boost the trucking workforce, and it’s one of the steps we need to reduce some of the issues with our supply chain,” Kelly said.

The senator has also urged the Biden administration, specifically the Departments of Agriculture and Transportation to act in ways that will ease the pace of inflation.
