The 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals will allow federally funded family planning clinics to make abortion referrals for now. Arizona joined 11 other states suing to reinstate rules that were put in place under former President Donald Trump. 

One rule required federally funded family planning clinics to be financially and physically independent from abortion clinics. Another prevented clinics from making abortion referrals.

But the federal court said the new regulations from the Department of Health and Human Services for Title X family planning can continue.

Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost claims the rules under the Trump administration were firewalls between family planning clinics, which can receive taxpayer funding, and their abortion services, which cannot. 

A U.S. District judge said 1.5 million fewer patients participated in Title X-funded services during the two years the Trump era rules were in place.
