One in 5 women is going to experience sexual assault in their lifetime. 

Jenna Panas is the CEO of the Arizona Coalition to End Sexual and Domestic Violence. She says there are three models of support for those who have experienced sexual assault.

There are family advocacy centers "that focus on children and families experiencing sexual violence, typically with law enforcement involvement," she said.

There are also dual purpose service providers, "so domestic violence providers that also provide rape crisis services, or support to survivors of sexual assault," Panas said. 

And third, "we have two stand-alone, what we might consider, rape crisis centers," she said." Both are brand new though, and are still kind of working on on programming." 

She says both are in Maricopa County and the result of new state funding. Panas also says it’s important to talk about this uncomfortable subject in order to help prevent sexual assaults. 

"To know that in any room, you are likely sitting with survivors of sexual assault or sexual violence can can be disheartening and then there's the other side of that that if one in five women have experienced that type of sexual violence there are a large number of men who have committed that violence," she said.
