A bipartisan group of senators has reportedly come to a consensus on gun reform legislation.

The package could include funding for school safety, expansions of the background check system and incentives for states to strengthen red flag laws.

Arizona Sen. Mark Kelly says the measure has plenty of support, especially on one key issue.

“Mental health, a big investment on community mental health. Right across the aisle folks realize that we’ve cut mental health spending in this country drastically over decades," Kelly said.

Sen. Kyrsten Sinema says the legislation is about saving lives and balancing Second Amendment rights.

“We feel confident that we have crafted a proposal that creates a holistic approach to addressing these challenges of mass violence in our community, and that we are doing so while also protecting the fundamental rights of Arizonans," said Sinema.

Sinema says the package plans to include expanded funding for mental health resources and an expansion of the background check system.

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell signaled his support Tuesday for the legislation.
