A new Arizona law goes into effect this year that would allow people to petition a court to seal criminal case records from public view. The law was passed in 2021 and became another opportunity at providing second chances for offenders.

The latest law comes with certain requirements in order for people to have their records sealed. Among those who qualify include individuals who completed the terms and conditions of their sentence. By having their information hidden, people would be able to apply for employment or have access to housing.

However, not everyone will be able to have their record sealed. According to the law, those with more serious offenses, such as violent or sexual crimes, could not take advantage of the law. The latest legislation also means that one’s record will not disappear since officials would still have access.
