Tucson's sales tax-funded street improvement plan is in motion

City officials in Tucson are gearing up for its long-awaited project that promises to repair and improve residential streets citywide.

The plan is funded through a half-cent sales tax first approved by voters in 2017. Last year, voters approved another measure to extend the sales tax rate for the next decade.

City officials expect that extension to turn out $740 million in revenue over the next 10 years and say most of the money will go toward improving every neighborhood street in the city.

Another portion will fund safety and traffic improvements, like bike lanes and lighting upgrades.

A newly launched website for the project lets Tucsonans check the progress of improvements in their areas.
