Valley of the Sun YMCA has launched PHX350. It’s a program that helps homeless young adults aged 18 to 24 by providing them emergency shelter for up to 90 days.

Jenna Cooper is vice president of community relations at the organization and says candidates are housed in rooms at the Lincoln Family Downtown YMCA location.

“This is a temporary transitional housing program, so while 24 of the rooms are filled right now, our goal is to really find fixed housing for all of these clients so we can help them transition into a stable home setting," she said.

The $4.7 million grant which funds the program for two years is supplied by the Arizona Department of Housing. The department obtains this from the State Housing Trust Fund.

Joan Serviss serves as the director of the agency.

“It’s one of the few state resources that we receive, and it is a flexible fund that allows us, the Department of Housing, to meet the unique housing landscape in Arizona," she said.

Serviss said conversations were previously held with the YMCA officials to address homelessness among the youth.
