As Valley temperatures flirt with triple digit highs, hikers need to start early, drink extra water and bring some too.

Scottsdale Fire Capt. David Folio says that it’s also important to know your limits.

"If you’re going with somebody that hikes all the time, but it’s your first hike, you may not be able to go the four miles that he or she can. So know your limitations and turn back when you get tired," Folio said.

He also said it’s a good idea to leave the dogs at home in hot weather.
