A recently approved intergovernmental agreement between Tempe and Maricopa County may lead to the purchase of a hotel or motel to provide shelter for individuals experiencing homelessness.

The cost: more than $10 million. Maricopa would use more than $7 million from the American Rescue Plan Act.

"We are definitely looking at a couple right now. We have not made a second acquisition at this point but one of the great things is our team is always out actively looking at potential acquisition opportunities," Tempe Mayor Corey Woods said.

One such property being considered is an inn along Apache Boulevard. Previously, Tempe also used funds to buy a Rodeway Inn for transitional housing.
