The Maricopa County Board of Supervisors has banned TikTok on county-issued devices.

The board’s unanimous vote comes about a month after Gov. Katie Hobbs gave state agencies deadlines to delete and block the popular social media app.

Supervisor Thomas Galvin said no one can stop the Chinese government from forcing a company based there to hand over data on American users.

“TikTok has been found to have security vulnerabilities that could expose county-owned or county-leased devices to malicious actors. Those vulnerabilities are unique to this app,” said Galvin.

Chairman Clint Hickman said Galvin pushed for a TikTok ban earlier this year. He praised Galvin for waiting for staff to gather more information.
