Every year, the Annie E. Casey Foundation releases its Kids Count Data Book showing state trends in child well-being.

Arizona has improved overall in some areas, but is still doing poorly across the board.

Arizona ranked 39th in overall well-being. The data book lists states from Best, Better, Worse, and Worst, with the state falling into that bottom category.

The state did see improved overall rankings across all of the categories: education, health, economic well-being, and family and community.

But individual trends showed some downturn. For example, children and teen deaths rose from 30 to 37 per 100,000 people.

Arizona also saw an increase in children of parents without secure employment, and a drop in young children attending school.
