Glendale and Chandler finalize budgets ahead of the new July 1 fiscal year

The Glendale City Council has approved a $1.26 billion budget for the upcoming fiscal year, which begins July 1.

According to a release from the city, expenditures include hiring new police and fire officers and expanding library hours at all branches. At least $37 million will be spent to improve current city parks and finish building another. Over $17 million is allocated for road pavement projects.

Meanwhile, the Chandler City Council has approved a $1.66 billion budget for the upcoming fiscal year, which also begins July 1.

According to a release from that city, nearly $180 million will be used for projects to support Intel’s expansion. Another $73 million is allocated to pay off Chandler’s Public Safety Personnel Retirement System pension, which is an unfunded liability. 

In total, the budget includes over $850 million in capital improvements for projects already in progress as well as new ones.
