Gov. Katie Hobbs vetoed 17 bills Tuesday, including one she said would make criminals out of those who provide aid to undocumented immigrants.

The measure would have made it illegal to use a phone or computer program to knowingly assist in human smuggling.

Marilyn Rodriguez with the American Civil Liberties Union said the bill could result in anyone who provides humanitarian services to migrants being charged.

Hobbs agreed, saying in her veto letter that it targets those who support refugees.

Another would have imposed a 10-year prison sentence to anyone who sells any pill containing at least two milligrams of fentanyl. The governor has vetoed about 140 bills as of Tuesday.
