The Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office is getting a big infusion of funding to battle the ongoing fentanyl crisis, which is hitting rural America hard. As the Arizona Mirror reports, Gov. Katie Hobbs announced that YCSO and the Prescott Valley Police Department will receive grants adding up to $1.5 million to fight fentanyl and human smuggling in their communities.

Hobbs emphasized, in a statement announcing the funding, that this represents a different approach to border security than her predecessor, Doug Ducey. She favors local solutions and is putting the funding to local departments to do things like update technology and add staff.

The Show spoke with Yavapai County Sheriff David Rhodes about how this kind of cash injection will bolster his department's efforts.
