The City of Phoenix is raising water rates substantially in the next few years.

Late last month, the City Council adopted the revenue increases, which will take place starting in October of 2023, when customers will see a 6.5% bump. There will be another 6.5% increase the next year, and a third — this time by 13% — in 2025.

Phoenix customers have seen rate increases five times in the last six years, and these increases come at the same time the West is grappling with ongoing drought and a drying climate.

The Show spoke more about the rate increases with Troy Hayes, water services director for the City of Phoenix.
